Reading Notes: Narayan's Ramayana Part A

As I read through Part A of Narayan's Ramayana, one story in particular caught my attention. Mahabali's story was interesting to me because he took advantage of what Vishnu left behind. This resulted in Vishnu having to reincarnate as a brahman and demonstrate to Mahabali that it is wrong to take advantage of what belongs to others and steal.

From this story, there were three main characters but three different scenes. This is a more complex story because of how many times the scene changes and the various interactions between the characters. Not only are the interactions short, but they give away an immense amount of information in just those few conversations. The story overall was barely two pages, so it will be important to be concise yet meet the criteria for remaking this story.

After doing some research over the King Mahabali, he is actually a kind king who cared for his people. This is an interesting viewpoint, where I can take the story from a different perspective and tell the story in a new writing style. King Mahabali asked Vishnu for one last wish: to visit his people in Kerala every year. This visitation became known as Onam, a festival to celebrate King Mahabali's return each year. This festival occurs in Kerala every year in September to honor the past King. This was in interesting tale with most of the tale being left out. I hope to take a new view on this story and create an interesting story out of it.
