Reading Notes: Narayan's Mahabharata Part B

Draupadi and Arjuna. Watercolor painting circa 1885. Source: VAM
After Duryodhana tried to burn down the house and kill the Pandava brothers, he was furious that they were not able to kill them. This even only made various opinions come forward to react to such an unsuccessful attempt. His guru, father, and best friend all gave their opinions on what to do, which confused Duryodhana even more. From this he then took the advice from Bhisma to invite them back and give them a space of their own. The Pandava brothers were right to be skeptical and did not easily do as before. They were cautious, but accepting. However, they were then warned for sharing Draupadi as their wife, which resulted in Arjuna being exiled. This connection is still unclear to me. Are they bearing the karma of this mistake? This story was very scattered and unorganized. It jumped from opinion to opinion to inviting them back to consequences of Draupadi being shared. This was a difficult story but it contains much more meaning than it presents.
